Dear Residents,

Welcome to our first news letter for 2005. During January we have been subjected to burglaries from dwellings and out houses. Also we have had a number of vehicles broken into and attempts made to steal them. If you are out in an evening try to make it appear that someone is home by closing curtains to prevent any one looking into your rooms and leave a light and radio on in a room. If you are away for a period of time perhaps you could use a timer switch to bring the lights on for a short time two or three times per day. This makes it difficult for the would be thief to know if the house is unoccupied. Please keep vigilant for suspicious persons or vehicles.

Over the winter we have had a number of traffic collisions due to mud on the roads. If you are travelling through a rural location please be aware of the possibility of mud especially where you can see tractors leaving fields and travelling between the field and their farm, gathering in crops. If mud builds up and we have rain fall this can become very slippery. Also I would like to remind farmers that although we appreciate that you have a living to make and this includes entering and leaving muddy fields on a regular basis, it is your responsibility to ensure clearly marked signs are placed on the sides of the road warning of the mud. Also you must make every effort to keep the road clear. If the road becomes dangerous then work must be postponed until it is safe to continue. Electrical equipment can be ordered from contractors, at your own cost if necessary.

We have received an increased number of complaints, regarding vehicles exceeding the speed limits through our villages. Can I remind you that speed restrictions are imposed for a reason ‘TO PROTECT LIFE’ in built up areas and all responsible drivers should abide by them.

Dog walkers Please remember to take a carrier bag with you when walking in a public place with your canine friend. They are like children they will want to go as soon as you get 100 yards down the road. A good way to collect his little parcel is to place your hand in the bag turning it inside out, then pick up the parcel and turn the bag the right way out capturing the offending item inside to be placed in the next doggy bin. This will prevent embarrassment of receiving a court summons through the post.
